Wonderoos by Hip Hip Baby! : fitting and adjusting the size
Information about sizing and adjusting the
size
The Wonderoo is the original one-size pocket nappy and has a unique
design that allows you to adjust it to grow with your baby. They are
designed to fit most babies from birth to potty training (approx. 8-35lb
/ 3.6-15.9kg) and cover the small to large weight range of other cloth
nappy systems. They are so adjustable that it is possible to achieve
an excellent fit on most babies most of the time.
Do they really fit from 8lb?
This life-size baby doll is equivalent in size to an real baby of approximately
10lb (4.5Kg). Like many babies he is not averagely proportioned. He
has a tubby tummy and relatively thin legs and bottom. The pictures
below show him in a typical newborn-sized disposable nappy and a Wonderoo.
The Wonderoo gives a neat and comfortable-looking fit compared with
the disposable nappy.

the waist allows for his tubby tummy. For slimmer babies the wings
can be overlapped. |

So, does this nappy really fit to potty training?
 |
|
This nappy is very soft and stretchy all over
and it is surprising how it covers the weight range. The picture
shows a child of 4 years 3 months (51 months) wearing a Wonderoos
nappy. (Most children potty train at around the age of 2 1/2 -
3 years).
The child is average height and muscular.
His height is at 50th centile and his weight at the 80th centile.
This means that he is average height (50% of children his age
are same height or shorter) and heavy for his age (80% are the
same weight or lighter than him)
The Wonderoos nappy still fits him well enough
to be usable.
Thanks to Joe who was happy to model for us
even though he hasn't worn a nappy for 18 months!

How to adjust Wonderoos
Wonderoos are a birth-to-potty nappy. They are highly adjustable
and will fit most babies from around 8lb - 35lb (3.5Kg - 16Kg).

Step
1: Adjust the size
The first thing to do is adjust the size of the nappy to suit your
baby. Adjusting your Wonderoos to fit your baby is very simple. You
will see on the front of the nappy is a horizontal row of poppers to
adjust the waist and two vertical sets of poppers to adjust the height
of the nappy.
To adjust to the smallest size:
 |
|
Fold the front of the nappy down and fasten popper
"1" to popper "S" on both sides of the nappy.
The nappy should look like the picture on the right. |
|
 |
To adjust to the Medium size:
| For the Medium size setting, fasten popper "1" to popper
"M" |
|
 |
For the largest size:
 |
. |
To use Wonderoos on their largest size simply leave
the height adjustment poppers unfastened |
Step 2: Add the Inserts
When you have adjusted the nappy height to the correct size for your
baby add the inserts. These are the absorbent part of the nappy. We
recommend the Hip Hip Baby! birth-to-potty inserts for use with Wonderoos.
Put the insert into the pocket of the nappy with the narrowest end
of the insert towards the front. Position the insert so that it is up
to the front of the nappy and check it lies flat inside the pocket.
Use the small insert for your newborn or when the nappy is on its smallest
setting. If you find this insufficient for your baby (babies do vary
in their wetting habits) try the large insert, folded over at the front
if necessary. When the nappy is on the medium or large setting use the
larger insert on its own or with the smaller one poppered to it to boost
absorbency where it is most needed. This makes for a very absorbent
nappy.
Step 3: Put the nappy on baby
Lie baby on the open nappy with the wings at the back. Pull the front
of the nappy up over baby's tummy and fit into the legs. Fasten the
both waist poppers on each wing of the nappy. Allow the fleece lining
to stick out at the back of the nappy to increase baby’s comfort
but check the absorbent insert is completely inside the nappy to prevent
leaks. Check the leg cuffs are giving a close comfortbale fit at the
thighs - you can do this by running your finger around the inside of
the legs of the nappy - it should be easy to do this but there should
be no big gaps.
For a newborn waist setting the wing can be overlapped as in pictures
A and B below. Select a snug but comfortable waist setting for your
baby - you should be able to easily run your finger inside the waist
of the nappy. Picture C shows a medium-range waist setting.
It is worth mentioning that, as with most one-size
nappies, the fit is dependent on the shape of your baby and the age
at which they potty train. Stockier toddlers may need a bigger nappy
towards the end of their time in nappies. A few babies will look as
though they are going to grow out of Wonderoos at around 12 - 15 months,
but then as they change from baby-shape to toddler shape they grow back
into them!
