Wonderoos one size nappies

Wonderoos have a durable soft, stretchy waterproof outer layer (PUL) that feels like fabric on the outside but keeps wetness and mess inside. Next to baby's skin is the softest polyester microfleece that allows wetness to pass through, away from baby's skin, and "locks" it into the absorbent pad or "insert" inside. The fleece dries quickly, keeping baby dry and comfy. There is an opening at the back of the "pocket" formed by these two layers into which the absorbent pad or "insert" is easily inserted or removed.

Wonderoos are a birth to potty nappy, designed to fit small babies right through until potty training. The picture shows a Wonderoo nappy on our two-year-old who was tall and heavy for his age at around the 90th centile.

The height (rise) of the nappy can be adjusted with a simple set of poppers to make it smaller or larger. A set of poppers at the waist allows a wide range of settings, and the 'wings' can be wrapped over each other for tiny waists. Because the level of absorbency can be adjusted to suit the child and occasion, the nappy can be kept trim for smaller babies or for playtimes, whilst there is plenty of room for adding absorbency for bigger children or longer periods.

A number of other features of this nappy make it particularly comfortable for baby. The leg openings are "frilled", a design that helps to prevent leaks, but also ensures that the elastic is covered by the fleece inner layer without a bulky seam next to baby's leg. The fleece inner layer is long at the back so that it can be left outside the nappy to give extra comfort for baby. Fleece is not absorbent and will not wick or cause leaks if left sticking out.

Wonderoos are one of the best-performing pocket nappies for night time, with a roomy pocket to allow additional inserts, as required, to give plenty of absorbency. Here's what one Wonderoos user told us: "We use the Wonderoos on our baby and one Wonderoo with the two micro inserts will last a good 11-12 hours without any problems. We don't even need to use any boosters. Before she goes to sleep she has a bottle of milk and lots of juice throughout the day and now shes 16 months she moves about at night loads, (she somehow even manages to turn herself around)."

We recommend that Wonderoos are used with their own inserts. These are made from either microterry or hemp for maximum performance. These inserts are one-size. They comprise a small three-layered insert for when the Wonderoos are on the small setting. There is also a large-three layered part which can be used on its own for a medium or large nappy, or with the small part poppered to it for when baby is bigger and needs lots of absorbency.

Wonderoos can be purchased separately or in ready-made kits. The Wonderoos Starter Kit contains everything needed to start out using your real nappies, including wipes, fluashable liners and a storage/tote bag (so you won't need a bucket). The Wonderoos Full Time Kit contains everything needed to use Wonderoos and wipes full time, including a large storage bag. The kits can be combined to provide a comfortable number of nappies for use all the time.

Advantages & disadvantages
One size fits most and works out as an economical choice despite initial impressions of it being expensive. Lightweight and quick drying. Good adjustability and fit. Fit not as 'neat' as with some nappies but the good coverage of the nappy area allows for increased reliability and room for extra inserts. The microfleece is comfortable and lightweight, fast absorbing and antipil (i.e. 'bobble' resistant) and is not liable to detergent build up. As with all one-size nappies, Wonderoos may be outgrown sooner than potty training on larger or stocky toddlers. Popper fastening will not rub baby or cause excessive wear and tear, making these durable nappies that will last well and stay looking good. No seams or PUL against baby's skin so very comfortable. Particularly suitable pocket nappy for night time.
Suggested inserts Wonderoos may be purchased without an insert or with their own one-size microterry or hemp inserts. Boosters will not be required for day time use. To use this nappy for night time you may need to use more absorbency and we recommend you use a Wonderoos insert with a natural fibre insert underneath such as the hemp Green Acre design insert or the Superbamboo inserts.
What else will I need? No liners or waterproof wraps are needed with this system. Nothing else is essential to use this system. Flushable liners can be used if prefered to make solids disposal easier.
Second hand value High.
Care Machine wash at 40ºC (or up to 60ºC if necessary) and hang to dry. Can be tumble dried on low heat if prefered, though they dry very quickly. Do not use greasy rash cream.
