About pocket nappies
There is no single best nappy system and most people find it useful
to have a few different nappies. However, pocket nappies have many of
the best features of other cloth nappy systems without some of the drawbacks,
making them a very versatile system (to read more about this see the
bottom of this page). They are easy to put on as there is just one piece,
but quick to dry as they come apart for washing. Even if you don't choose
them as your main nappy system it is handy to have a few for quick changes
when you're out, for the childminder or for travelling nappies. Fuzzi
Bunz have been around for a few years and have evolved to be the
extremely popular, versatile, easy-to-use cloth nappy they are now.
Wonderoos are newer and gaining popularity
as they combine the benefits of a pocket nappy with the economy of a
one-size, grow-with-your-baby cloth nappy. Brand new to the UK market
are Swaddlebees with are cut to give a
fantastic, comfortable fit and are super-trim, making them ideal for
playtimes. Nature Babies Stuffables are
a popular UK made pocket nappy incoporating a leg gusset for improved
containment. All are available in a wide range of colours/prints so
there's bound to be something for everyone. Minkis
are another popular UK-made pocket nappy, made with a layer of attractive
fleece on the outside making them ideal for showing off! Fuzzi
Bunz and Nature Babies Stuffables can also be used as wraps if needed.
Our pocket nappies are...
... kind to babies ...
- soft fleece/suedecloth inner keeps baby's skin dry, removing a major
cause of nappy rash
- slim-fitting, soft and stretchy so baby can move freely
- comfortable - soft next to the skin and leave no deep red marks.
A range of sizes and/or adjustable fitting to suit baby's size perfectly
- contain no gels, chemicals etc.
- look really cute!
... kind to parents ...
- quick and easy to put on - like disposable/all-in-one nappy so are
great for little wrigglers and easy for childminders etc.
- no need for extra liners or wraps
- simple to wash and dry naturally quickly
- versatile - adjust the absorbency to suit the occasion (e.g. slim
for playtime, thicker for long journey/sleep)
- can be used as wraps as well as pocket nappies
- affordable - FAR cheaper than disposables (including cost of washing)
and costs are comparable with shaped nappy systems. Should last through
more than one baby's nappy-hood
- synthetic materials (fleece) do not stain like cotton can
- poppers make it difficult for little fingers to undo!
... kind to the environment.
- one baby uses only 24-50 reusable cloth nappies compared with 6,000
disposables
- millions of disposable nappies are dumped every day in Britain and
take hundreds of years to break down
- disposable nappy manufacture uses vast amounts of natural resources
(trees, crude oil)
- disposable nappy manufacture results in large quantities of bleaching
chemicals being released into the environment.
