Swaddlebees pocket nappies

Side-snapping, cotton velour/stay-dry, multi-sized pocket nappy. Price £9.99 *New prints now in*
Swaddlebees pocket nappies are the trimmest fitting nappies we have come across! The crotch area has been cut narrow to reduce unnecessary bulk between the baby’s legs, yet still leaves enough room to put in the required amount of absorbency. The leg openings are cut higher than other pocket nappies, meaning that the nappy suits babies with slim or chubby thighs equally well.

The shape of these nappies is very like that of ordinary pants, and they are easy to pull down AND back up without bunching between the legs. This makes them great for use as a pull-up when your child is making the transition from nappies to potty training.

The outer layer is made from a soft, stretchy waterproof polyester knit fabric (PUL) to keep wetness inside. Next to the baby's skin is a layer of the softest cotton velour. Underneath this is a layer of polyester fabric which will wick moisture away and 'trap' it into the removable absorbent insert placed inside the pocket. This combination of cotton velour on top with a stay-dry layer underneath means that there is a natural fabric next to baby's skin but still a stay-dry effect.

Swaddlebees Inserts
It is highly recommended that Swaddlebees nappies are used with their own brand inserts. The Swaddlebees inserts are cut to the super-trim 'hourglass' contour of the nappy and fit perfectly, with no 'bunching up' between the legs. Some other popular trim inserts will also fit inside the nappy, but pre-folds or folded terries etc. will NOT be suitable for this nappy because they will cause bunching up, which may cause leaks. Swaddlebees inserts are made from either hemp or microterry and are available in small, medium and large to fit the appropriate nappy size.
Hemp Made from FIVE layers of hemp French terry, the inserts are sewn together at each end but open out into a loop for quicker drying. Absorbency is 6 - 8 oz of fluid, depending on the size.
Microterry Made from three layers of plush microterry fabric. Absorbency is 7 - 10 oz of fluid, depending on the size.

Sizing
Swaddlebees nappies are available in small, medium, and large sizes. (Click here for more details on sizing). Because of their high cut legs openings, Swaddlebees will fit a wide range of baby shapes.

Fits chunky babies... ... average ones... ... and skinny ones too!

Options
Available in a wide range of colours from white, to pretty pastels, and bold primary colours and some lovely new prints! Please see the ordering page for pictures of all the available colours. Available with popper fastenings at the sides making them idea for use as pull ups. The side-poppers also make for a slim profile and is difficult for toddlers to undo. The separate waist and thigh settings allow adjustment of each opening independently to ensure a customized fit.

Trimness and absorbency
The pictures below illustrate just how slim Swaddlebees nappies are: a Swaddlebees medium-sized nappy and insert is pictured with a Huggies and a Pampers nappy of the same size.

Because of their trimness Swaddlebees will probably not suit every baby for every occasion. However, the inserts are made from hemp or microterry, which are more absorbent weight for weight than cotton, making them very absorbent yet trim. On most babies, one hemp insert will last around 1.5 - 2 hours (absorbency 6 - 8oz depending upon size) and the microterry a little longer. Some experts recommend changing nappies this frequently, but in the UK people tend to change real nappies every 3 - 4 hours. If you wish to make your nappy last longer use two Swaddlebees inserts (if your baby has outgrown his small nappies the small inserts would be suitable to boost the medium nappies and so on), or boost with a Swaddlebees hemp insert or a microfibre cloth folded into three or four layers on top of or wrapped around your insert. This will still give a very trim fit as there will be no 'bunch up' between the legs.

For most babies Swaddlebees pocket nappies wouldn't be the nappy of choice for night time.

Summary information
A super-trim, easy to use pocket nappy, highly recommended as a pull up during potty training.
Advantages and disadvantages of Swaddlebees over other pocket nappies: The organic cotton velour next to baby's skin is lovely and soft, and offers a pocket nappy with a natural lining next to the skin, with the advantage of a stay-dry layer underneath to increase baby's dryness compared with an ordinary cotton nappy. The cotton layer does not stay as dry as polyester. Good adjustability and excellent fit. Extremely trim and comfortable for baby so great for playtimes! Multisized so you will need to purchase several sizes as your baby grows. Will not suit for night time or for heavy wetters. Ideal for use as a pull-up in the transition between nappies and potty training.
What else will I need? No liners or waterproof wraps are needed with these nappies, but you will need pocket nappy inserts (see below).
Suggested inserts It is recommended Swaddlebees nappies are used with their specially designed inserts and boosted either with another Swaddlebees insert, a swaddlebees boster or a folded microfibre cloth.
Re-sale value High.
Care Wash at 40 or up to 60ºC and hang to dry. Do not use greasy rash cream. For more details click here. Please don't expect top performance from organic cotton velour-lined nappies until they have been washed at least three times to remove the natural oils and fluff up the fibres.
Important: when you first receive your nappies you might think that you have ordered or been sent the wrong size as they do look very trim. However, please do check the size by trying them on your baby. They are much larger than they appear.
