The absorbent material placed inside a pocket nappy largely determines how effective the nappy will be. Anything absorbent can be used inside pocket nappies, including old handtowels, cotton t-shirts etc. in an emergency! Prefold nappies can be used and these can work well, as can pad-folded terries, but specially designed inserts give pocket nappies their slim fit and absorb liquid quickly, before leaks can occur. Our inserts will fit into any pocket nappy (except Swaddlebees pocket nappies which have specially designed inserts) and can be combined with any booster for extra absorbency if required. Wonderoo V2 One-Size inserts
Absorbent, trim, one-size insert designed for wonderoo V2 but can be used with any pocket nappy!.
Really two inserts in one, this is an extremely reliable insert, designed byHipHipbaby! It is a 3 stage insert:

Stage 1: the small, contoured insert is made from three layers of microterry, and is soft and quick to absorb, ideal for small babies.
Stage 2: the large rectangular insert is made from six layers of soft, stretchy and fast-absorbing bamboo terry. Bamboo is an eco-friendly crop to grow and this fabric has been specially chosen to be highly absorbent and trim. Although bamboo is generally felt to be slow to dry, this insert unfolds for swift drying. It fastens together with snaps to make it easy to insert into the nappy and keep it neatly folded when in use.
Stage 3: the two inserts can be snapped together to provide super-absorbency for older babies, heavy wetters or for night time. There are two (coloured) snap positions, enabling you to put the booster/small insert where it is most required for your child, often to the front for boys (blue snap), and to the centre for girls (pink snap). Wonder-Fulls One-Size microterry inserts
Absorbent, trim, one-size insert for pocket nappies.
Really two inserts in one, this is an extremely reliable insert, designed by a mum in the USA and extremely popular there. Wonder-Fulls consist of one large insert and one small insert that can be snapped together to make it easy to put them into the nappy. For newborns just use the smaller insert. For larger infants and toddlers snap the inserts together or use just the larger part. Wonder-Fulls are made from microterry fabric.

Microterry is a synthetic material, meaning that it stays very soft, even in hard water areas. It is very absorbent and so makes for a slim insert, though is not quite as slim as hemp. It absorbs liquid extremely quickly which reduces the chances of leaks. These inserts are made from very high quality fluffy microterry and are approximately 1.5cm thick when both inserts are used together.

Wonder-Fulls are the perfect shape for pocket nappies, giving excellent coverage and protection from leaks, whilst keeping them trim. At the front and underneath, where your baby needs absorbency most, there are six layers of hemp or microterry fabric (when the two parts are snapped together). At the back where less absorbency is needed there are only three layers of microterry, to keep the nappy trim to fit under clothes etc. However, the insert becomes nice and broad at the back so that a large amount of the nappy area is covered, making it protect against leaks better than a simple rectangular shape.

We recommend Wonder-Fulls for use with all our pocket nappies (apart from the trimmer Swaddlebees pockets), and they work particularly well with Wonderoos and Fuzzi Bunz. Wonder-Fulls can also be used as a shaped nappy in a similar way to prefolds, inside a snug-fitting wrap with a liner on top, or as a booster for any type of nappy.

At first glance Wonder-Fulls seem more expensive than other inserts, but because they adapt from birth to potty training there's no need to buy more than one size of inserts, making them economical. When you compare the price of one Wonder-Full with the price of two of other inserts they offer good value. Furthermore their shape means that you get a lot of fabric for your money compared with other, less generously cut inserts! You will almost certainly not need to buy boosters for use with these inserts. NB Stitching around edges is now white.

At last, this popular insert is available for use in any pocket nappy! This unique combination of microfibre terry and organic cotton/hemp fleece provides you with a quick-absorbing trim insert. Two layers of microfiber terry quickly absorbs the wetness, and four layers of organic cotton/hemp fleece in the wet zone keeps holds lots of liquid. In the one size there are three popper settings to allow you to adjust the size of the insert to small, medium or large:

One-Size hemp or microterry inserts from Green Acre Designs
A one size insert that folds to fit any size of pocket nappy.
Made from either 4 layers of absorbant microterry these inserts are very absorbent. The inserts measure approximately 12cm wide by around 37cm at the longest length to fit large-sized pocket nappies, but folding down to around 28cm which will fit most small size pocket nappies.

Green Acre Designs inserts are quick drying too, as the four layers are sewn in a loop so that the insert can be opened out to facilitate quick drying. These inserts will fit your Mommy's Touch One Size Pocket nappies perfectly and are suitable for most other brands of pocket nappy, apart from the Swaddlebees range (which is too narrow). 'SuperBamboo' bamboo inserts
Soft, stretchy absorbent inserts made from Bamboo fabric. New bamboo terry style.
We are delighted to be able to offer these excellent high-quality inserts to the UK. Made in France by P'tits Dessous ("Little Pants"), they consist of layers of fine terry fabric made from bamboo fibre which is soft, silky and stretchy! Bamboo is a very 'green' crop as it has a very short growth cycle and is easily cultivated without the use of chemical pesticides. (Click for more information on why choose organic fibres.) It also has antibacterial properties making it an ideal nappy fabric. More absorbent weight-for-weight than cotton it gives an extremely trim pocket nappy insert and remains very soft, even in hard water areas.

This insert is a simple rectangular shape, around 67cm long by 13cm wide, with overlock stitching around the edge to keep it neat.
Size 2 (cream with blue stitching) has 4 layers of Bamboo terry and is ideal for use in medium or large nappies, folded in half to give 8 layers.

We recommend this insert for use with Fuzzi Bunz, Wonderoos, Slinki & Standard Minkis, and Nature Babies Stuffables and Mommy's Touch pocket nappies. One insert will suit most babies for daytime use. For night nappies try two bamboo inserts or use together with any other insert. Superbamboo inserts are fantastic to use under a microterry insert for heavy wetters and will not become stiff in hard water.

Care Store with your nappies and machine wash at 40 or up to 60ºC. They can be tumble-dried on a low heat or hang to dry. These inserts are made from a dense fibre and are relatively slow-drying, taking a similar time to dry as Wonder-Full hemp inserts.

Rectangular micro-terry inserts
Soft, absorbent, microfibre insert for pocket nappies.
These , slim-fitting pads are suitable for most pocket nappies. They are made from three layers of microfibre terry, which absorbs between the fibres rather than into the fibres themselves, as in cotton. Being a man-made fibre it is lightweight, very soft, even when wet, looks slim and dries very quicky. We recommend microterry inserts if you live in a hard water area as microterry does not get stiff as natural fibres can do.

One insert will suit light wetters for daytime use but for medium to heavy wetters you will need a booster for longer periods (see below) . Try two inserts for night time. These inserts are available in two sizes:
Small For the Small pocket nappies (size approx. 14 x 30.5cm)
Large For Large/Extra Large/Petite Toddler nappies (size approx. 14 x 39.5cm).

Tip An economical way to use these inserts is to buy the small size for the small pocket nappies and the large for the medium and large pocket nappies. Your small inserts can then be used as boosters with the large inserts when your child needs greater absorbency. The small insert can be placed so that it adds a second layer at the front and underneath of the nappy, where your child needs it most. (However, if a slimmer nappy is required you might wish to try the boosters below.)

Care Store and wash with your pocket nappies ~ wash on hot and hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat.

These , slim-fitting pads are made by Charlie Banana for use in Charlie Banana nappies although they are in fact also suitable for most pocket nappies. They are made from four layers of microfibre terry, which absorbs between the fibres rather than into the fibres themselves, as in cotton. It is a man-made fibre, so is lightweight, very soft, even when wet, looks slim and dries very quicky. Available in Medium/Large and Small and suitable for both One Size and Sized nappies. Micro-terry boosters
Soft, absorbent, microfibre pad suitable for boosting all nappy types
These booster pads are made from two layers of microterry, a highly absorbent synthetic fibre. Microterry stays soft despite repeated washing and drying. Because microterry absorbs up to seven times its own weight, the pads are absorbent yet slim, so they make absorbent boosters if you don't want to add too much bulk to the nappy. Suitable to boost any nappies (two-part or pocket nappies). Rectangular in shape, size approx: 14cm x 33cm). One of our favourite booster pads because they stay so soft!

Swaddlebees hemp boosters
Absorbent trim hemp boosters for any type of nappy
Ideal booster for any pocket nappy or two part nappy. Swaddlebees one-size hemp booster is made with 4 layers of organic cotton/hemp fleece. These boosters will fit perfectly inside a Swaddlebees hemp pocket nappy insert to make it quick and easy to pop inside the nappy. They will also fit underneath the 'flap-out'booster of the Swaddlebees shaped nappies or other nappies. They measure approx. 33cm x 9cm (13" x 3.5") but will shrink slightly in length in the first few washes.

Swaddlebees inserts
Narrow inserts made from microterry or hemp.
There inserts are specially-designed for Swaddlebees nappies, and it is highly recommended that they are used together as a system. The Swaddlebees inserts are cut to a rectangular shape to fit as much as possible the contour of the nappy so as to give a trim fit between the legs. Swaddlebees inserts are made from either hemp or microterry and are available in small, medium and large to fit the appropriate nappy.
Hemp Made from FIVE layers of hemp French terry, the inserts are sewn together at each end but open out into a loop for quicker drying. Absorbency is 6 - 8 oz of fluid depending on the size.
Microterry Made from three layers of plush microterry fabric. Absorbency is 7 - 10 oz of fluid depending on the size.

Due to their narrow cut we do not recommend Swaddlebees be used as the only insert in pocket nappies (apart from Swaddlebees nappies of course), but they make excellent trim boosters for any pocket nappy or shaped nappy with a pocket.
