Care of Nature Babies pocket nappies
Caring for your nappies is easy but there are a few do's and don'ts
to keep them in the best condition and prolong their life.
1. Remove a wet nappy and simply shake out the insert into your dry
nappy bucket and throw in the nappy. If the nappy is soiled shake any
solids into the toilet. Most should just plop down the toilet - if there
is still a lot left on the nappy you will probably find this will rinse
off by putting the washing machine through a pre-wash rinse cycle. If
you would rather clean further before putting into the machine you can
rinse more poo off by flushing the loo whilst holding FIRMLY onto a
corner. Finally, put the nappy and insert into your dry nappy bucket.
2. On wash day I recommend running your nappies through a rinse cycle
in your machine before washing.
3. Wash using a 60ºC wash cycle and rinse. Use only a 1/2 of the
recommended amount of detergent to prevent build up of detergent on
the fabric. There is no need to soak the nappies or wash hotter than
60ºC.
4. Ideally hang your Nature Babies Stuffables to dry outside or inside
in a warm place but not directly on a radiator etc. They will dry in
a few hours. You can tumble dry them but use the lowest heat setting
to maintain their condition.
5. To make Nature Babies Stuffables even easier to use store them
snapped down into the desired position and ready-stuffed with an insert.
A few DON'Ts
Caring for your nappies properly will keep them looking and performing
their best. Below is a list of things that can harm your nappies and
result in leaks.
- Don't use a nappy barrier or balm cream with these
nappies- it will leave a greasy residue on the stay dry inner which
is very difficult to remove. If you want to use a cream because of
severe nappy rash use our thick nappy liners to prevent cream getting
onto the nappy or switch to a different nappy system to preserve your
pocket nappies.
- Don't use any bleach products. Bleach is a strong chemical and will
break down the fibre in your nappies.
- Don't use fabric softener. It will coat the fabrics, making them water
repellent and will cause leaks! Be aware that if you use dryer sheets
in your dryer for other laundry this can coat your dryer and transfer
to your nappies. If you encounter leaks, try hang drying instead.
- Don't wash or dry on HOT or HIGH HEAT!
The PUL layer (waterproof outer) is meant for warm or low heat
only! Preserve the life of your nappies by following this recommendation.
A few tips
- Do wash your nappies after every use (i.e. do not add fresh insert
to used nappy pocket).
- Natural-type detergents and soaps are not recommended for nappies
containing polyester because of the soap build up they leave. This
build up can cause repelling, leaks and rashes in sensitive skin.
Cloth nappies do not require much detergent and too much can leave
residue on the fibres, possibly causing your nappies to smell, leak,
or leave baby with a rash. 1/2 the recommended amount per load is
sufficient.
- Soaking dirty nappies (in a bucket filled with water & disinfectant
or detergent) is not necessary. A dry nappy bucket with a tight fitting
lid works fine.
