Instructions on using and caring for your
nappies are not routinely sent with orders as many people do not require
them with every order. However, copies are available if requested. Please
state in the 'additional information' box at the checkout what information
you require.
Care of your Fuzzi Bunz ("Perfect Size" and One-Size versions)
The following instructions are based on the manufacturers' care information.
Caring for your Fuzzi Bunz pocket nappies is easy but there are a few
do's and don'ts to maintain their condition.
1. Remove a wet nappy and simply shake the nappy insert out of the
pocket into your dry nappy bucket and throw the nappy in. There is no
need to unfasten the elastic on the Fuzzi Bunz One-Size nappy when laundering.
If the nappy is soiled strectch the fleece over the loo and gently shake
any solids into the toilet. If the nappy is still very soiled you will
probably find this will rinse off by putting the washing machine through
a pre-wash rinse cycle, though you might prefer to rinse it off by hand
- hold in the toilet while flushing and holding FIRMLY! onto a corner.
Put the nappy and nappy insert into your dry nappy bucket.
2. On wash day I recommend running your Fuzzi Bunz nappies through
a rinse cycle in your machine without detergent before washing. Adding
soda cystals (cheap, widely available and very eco-friendly) will help
to remove excess faeces and urine.
3. Wash using a 40 or 60ºC wash cycle and rinse. Use
1/2 to
2/3 of the recommended amount of detergent (for heavily soiled laundry)to
prevent build up of detergent on the fabric. There is no need to soak
Fuzzi Bunz and soaking can cause lingering smells.
4. Ideally hang your pocket nappies to dry outside or inside in a warm
place, but not directly on a radiator etc. Hang them fleece side up
to speed drying. They will dry in a few hours. You can tumble dry them
but use the lowest heat setting to maintain their condition.
5. To make Fuzzi Bunz even easier to use store them ready-stuffed with
an insert.
A few DON'Ts
Caring for your nappies properly will keep them looking and performing
their best. Below is a list of things that can harm your nappies and result
in leaks.
- Don't use a nappy barrier or balm cream
with these nappies- it will leave a greasy residue on the stay dry inner
which is very difficult to remove. If you want to use a cream because
of severe nappy rash use our thick nappy liners to prevent cream getting
onto the nappy or switch to a different nappy system to preserve your
Fuzzi Bunz pocket nappies.
- Don't use any bleach products.
Bleach is a strong chemical and will break down the fibres in your nappies.
- Don't use fabric softener.
It will coat the fabrics, making them water repellent and will cause
leaks! Be aware that if you use dryer sheets in your dryer for other
laundry this can coat your dryer and transfer to your nappies. If you
encounter leaks with your Fuzzi Bunz nappies, try hang drying instead.
- Don't wash or dry on HOT or HIGH HEAT!
The PUL layer (waterproof outer) is meant for warm or low heat
only! Preserve the life of your nappies by following this recommendation.
- Don't use tea tree oil or other essential
oils This may coat the fabrics, causing them to repel liquid.
A few tips
- Do wash your nappies after every use (i.e. do not add fresh insert
to a used pocket nappy).
- Reusable nappies do not require much detergent and too much can leave
residue on the fibres, possibly causing your nappies to smell, leak,
or leave baby with a rash. 1/2 to 2/3 of the recommended amount per
load should be sufficient. We recommend an ecologically responsible
non-bio detergent such as Ecover to wash Fuzzi Bunz.
- Soaking dirty nappies (in a bucket filled with water & disinfectant
or detergent) is not necessary. A dry nappy bucket with a tight fitting
lid or an airtight bag works fine.
