Fluffles from Tots Bots

A relatively new nappy from Tots Bots which has become popular quickly. It has some similarities in design to the original Tots Bots nappies, but is made from two layers of microterry rather than from cotton terry. Microterry is a synthetic fabric made from 100% polyester and has the advantages of being lightweight and highly absorbent. Microterry absorbs liquid between the fibres, rather than into the fibres themselves as with natural fibres, and this means that liquid is soaked up extremely quickly and is mostly removed by spinning in the washing machine so it will hang to dry very quickly. Being synthetic the fabric does not become rough when wet or even when washed in hard water, and has antibacterial properties.

Three quarters of the inside of the Fluffle is lined with a soft fleece with an opening at the front which forms a pocket. There is a detachable booster that can be poppered onto the front of the nappy and posted into the pocket, to give an extra two layers of absorbent fabric where it is needed most. A booster can be easily added to the pocket if required for long naps or night time. The fit and overall effect of Fluffles are similar to the original cotton terry Tots Bots.

An outer nappy wrap will be required with this nappy (see below for suggestions).

Options
Very simple, Fluffles are available in white microterry only. You can choose from a Nappi Nippa, poppers or Aplix fastenings. Please see belwo for details about this.

Sizing
Fluffles are available in two sizes. The Size 1 and Size 2 Fluffles can be used simply as a multi-sized nappy system: the Size 1 is a trimmer option for a first size nappy and will fit a tiny newborn until around 18lb and then the Size 2 can be used. The approximate weight guidelines for the sizes are:
Size 1 5lb - 18lb (2.3Kg - 8.2Kg)
Size 2 10lb - 40lb (4.5Kg - 18.2Kg)
All three nappy fastening types can be used like this as a two-size system.

For a more economical option the Size 2 Nappi Nippa fastening and the poppers fastening nappies can be used as birth-to-potty nappies, fitting from around 10lb up until potty training. The front of the nappy folds down making it shorter in the rise (height). In the nippa-fastening version the nappy can simply be held together with the nappy nippa. In the poppered version folding down the front of the nappy reveals another row of poppers inside the nappy which allow it to be fastened on the smaller setting. Because the booster is detachable it can be removed for when the nappy is at its smallest size, reducing the bulk of the nappy for smaller babies.

The Aplix version of this nappy is not suitable for use as a birth to potty option.

Advantages & disadvantages compared with other shaped nappies Very absorbent yet lightweight, quick drying, and not too bulky. Mostly fleece-lined and easy to boost for night time. This is a relatively new nappy but the design and the fabric have been well tested in other nappies. If you like microterry, Fluffles are an excellent choice. Fluffles are now made from a soft, fluffy long-pile microterry which feels OK to the touch. Good choice of fastenings. There is also the choice of using fluffles as a two-size or a birth to potty nappy.
What else will I need? With Fluffles you may choose to use disposable liners to make solid waste disposal easier, though it is not necessary as the fleece will release solids to drop into the loo quite easily. Fluffles will probably need boosters for overnight or possibly as your baby gets bigger and does bigger wees. Any boosters (except those topped with a stay-dry layer) are suitable, but if you want to stick with microterry we can recommend microterry pocket nappy inserts or boosters. You will need outer covers/wraps and Nappi Nippas if you choose the nippa fastening Fluffles.
Suggested wraps The Tots Bots PUL wraps fit beautifully, as do the Tots Bots fleece wraps, which we recommend for night time. Others that work well are the Mother-ease Rikki or Air Flow and Nature Babies Classic Covers or Swaddlebess ABC wraps.
Resale value Good.
